Sylvia Javén (b 1988), lives and works in Helsinki.
"I was born on an island in the Finnish archipelago, and I continued through my life to visualize in my mind different places and events as islands. I often work with the idea of the landscape, I think it exists in many layers; emotional, spiritual, geographical, historical. In my paintings, videos and installations, I materialize a mixture of geographic shapes and personal narratives. The works can be understood as esoteric maps. I have exhibited my work in Finland and internationally in Sweden, Russia, Germany, Denmark and UK in film festivals and art exhibitions.”
