Alex Markwith is a Helsinki-based visual artist whose paintings merge abstraction and street art influences, often utilizing found collage materials like torn fabric and construction tape. Markwith is originally from the USA and lived in New York for ten years. Each piece is built up in layers of expressive brushwork and spray paint applied in layers, hiding and revealing. The work is playful, energetic and tactile, balancing natural and unnatural, architectural and organic, deliberation and improvisation.
