Alex Markwith (b. 1988, Kingston, PA) is an American visual artist known for his abstract, mixed media pieces that blur the line between painting and sculpture. He uses found materials such as fabric and construction supplies while breaking or building upon the canvas in defiance of pictorial convention.
Markwith lived and worked in New York City before moving to Helsinki in 2020. While a student at Rhode Island School of Design (BFA Painting, 2011), he spent a semester in Rome, Italy.
He has had solo exhibitions in New York, Houston, Helsinki and Paris and is included in numerous private collections as well as the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
