Sylvia Javén’s art is deeply connected to the Finnish archipelago, where she was born on an island outside of Turku. She continues to think of places, experiences, emotions, and people in terms of distinct shapes and lines that exist within her. This lifelong project of understanding landscape as both a geographical and emotional place has led her to visualize the experience in minimal, symbolic forms. Painting is to her a process of discovery, stripping away the unnecessary and capturing the core. Sylvia Javén has a master's degree from Aalto University’s Department of Art and Design and has exhibited her work in Finland and abroad.
