Critique of Pure Reason

My paintings are multi-layered, merging digital techniques and mixed media assemblage to explore themes of mortality, technology and criticism of power. Recent works incorporate artificial intelligence as a tool to generate new images based on my own paintings, which are used as the basis for new works or printed on paper to be torn up and pasted as collage. Although I use AI in my process, discussion of its shortcomings and potential misuse remain an implicit part of the work.
Previously based in New York City, Alex Markwith lives and works in Helsinki. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in numerous public and private collections.
